The Presentation College Novice Team came 4th in the National League Final held in Mullingar Equestrian Centre on 8th April 2017. They all had a fabulous first round with all four having a clear round. They battled very well in the final to take the 4th place. It was a glorious day in Mullingar with excellent facilities and beautiful weather made it a very enjoyable day for all. Ava Donoghue also placed 5th in the Individual 90cm.
On St. Patrick's day last, the Novice Team of Ava & Alicia Donoghue, Ava Finn and Jack Niland won the Novice team event with Ava Finn winning the Individual 80cm. The challenging programme involves elements of community, personal and physical development over the course of a year.
Students were presented with their Gaisce Bronze medals and certificates on Thursday, 4th May by 2FM Radio Presenter Keith Walsh who encouraged the students to dream big and look to others who inspire their future plans. Alan Ahearne, Professor of Economics and Director of the Whitaker Institute at the National University of Ireland, Galway, visited Mr. Cotter's Economics class today and spoke to students about the potential effects of 'Brexit' on the Irish economy.
Following the presentation, Fourth Year students; Jessica Gormally and Darragh Coleman presented Prof. Aherne with a hand-crafted frame as a token of their appreciation. https://we.tl/veOmrX4Hh5 On Monday, 3rd April, all Transition Year students participated in a Mind and Body Day. This was organised by the Transition Year, Project Management Group. The event included guided meditation sessions for all students in the morning while in the afternoon, students received presentations from David Collins (Former Galway Hurling Captain, Current GPA President and Jigsaw Galway Ambassador) and also from a counsellor and resident of Cuan Mhuire, Coolarne, Athenry, Co. Galway. This event was also sponsored by many local businesses. A great day was had and thanks to all involved!
As a European Union Ambassador School, our Transition Year students take part in a variety of EU related learning activities. The groups have recently attended a celebratory presentation for the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome. To conclude this year’s programme of events, Ms. Marian Harkin, MEP visited the students to discuss her role as MEP and the potential impact of Brexit on our economy. This was Ms. Harkin's fifth year to visit the school and as a token of their appreciation, Mr. Jason Cotter's European Studies class made a special presentation to Ms. Harkin on the day.
