Our junior boys footballers lost the Connacht Semi Final to St. Muredach's Ballina on a scoreline of 2-14 to 3-10. A great effort from all involved and great progress made this year.
On Wednesday, 8th of March, Paddy Daly, Youth Development Officer with the St. Vincent de Paul, Galway Region visited the school to talk to a group of Transition Year students. Paddy gave a very engaging and informative talk on the history of St. Vincent de Paul, both from an international and national perspective. He engaged with the students very well throughout the talk, inviting their opinions, views and questions on topics ranging from poverty to lonliness and social justice to education. TY's were inspired by his enthusiasm and will hopefully become involved in these issues through project work and fundraising in the future. It is hoped that Paddy will return to speak with other year groups soon.
Our Senior footballers were unfortunate to lose a thrilling Connacht Final vs Ballinrobe on a scoreline of 2-12 to 1-17. The boys performed terrific against a very fancied Ballinrobe side and did the school very proud. Joe Healy, President of the IFA visited PCA on Thursday 2nd of March to speak to 4th year and Leaving Cert. Ag. Science students. Mr. Healy is a past pupil of PCA and was a full-time dairy farmer before he took up his new position. Mr. Healy spoke to the students about his selection as a candidate for the election. In his presentation he offered an insight into a typical week in the life of President and the importance of agriculture to the Irish economy.
A full recording Mr. Healy's presentation is available on our Soundcloud page, which can be accessed by clicking here. Retired Home Economics Teacher, Mrs. Ryan recently returned to our school to meet with TY students and tell them about her experiences of volunteering in Uganda. Mrs. Ryan will return to Uganda to continue her voluntary and we wish her the very best in her new chapter.
